Our Mission
Superleagues is a sports club based in Calgary dedicated to providing the highest level of fun, organization, and value to amateur leagues in the sport of Ball Hockey.
Our statement of providing "Amateur Leagues for the Pro in You" refers to our leagues offering a level of service and satisfaction that you would expect from a professionally managed organization, but not usually found in most amateur leagues. We believe all amateur players and athletes deserve a better quality of sport, and Superleagues is positioned to deliver it.
History of Superleagues
Superleagues Ltd. stems from the roots of the Calgary Ball Hockey Association. The CBHA was formed in 1983 as the primary league for Men's and Women's ball hockey in Calgary. In the spring of 2001, Jason Smith assumed the position of President to keep the league alive, with only 8 Men's teams remaining. Due to the lack of annual filings and documentation from previous directors, the CBHA was officially dissolved by the province. In the spring of 2002, Jason formed a new corporation called Calgary Ball Hockey Ltd. and continued on building the sport of ball hockey to new highs. To pull away from the negative stigma left behind from the CBHA name and gain more exciting marketing appeal, the corporation was re-branded in 2004 to Superleagues Sports Club.
In the Spring of 2006, a local Women's league run by West Hillhurst Community Asscociation was invited to join Superleagues to capitalize on their proven experience and track record for growing and running ball hockey leagues. The Women's league, a former member of the CBHA until its demise, has struggled to grow beyond the 8 teams they had maintained for years and is looking for Superleagues to bring renewed interest and greater exposure to Women's ball hockey in Calgary.
Today, Superleagues offers Adult Men's and Women's ball hockey leagues to over 60 teams year round and continues to grow every year.
Future of Superleagues
With the recent acquisition of the CYBHL, Calgary's Youth Ball Hockey League, Superleagues is now able to market to players of all genders and ages. Superleagues has recently engaged a top marketing firm and is taking steps to expand the Youth and Women's programs agressively over the next couple years. Superleagues will also bring the 2011 National Championships back to Calgary and is bidding on hosting the 2013 World Championships. These goals along with large corporate support, media involvement, and a solid business plan are working towards our ultimate goal; the construction of a dedicated year-round ball hockey facility. This facility will be the final piece for us to expand our sport and acheive great things for ball hockey in Calgary!
