About Ball Hockey
The sport of Ball hockey is played on foot, not roller blades, and follows similar rules to amateur ice hockey in Canada. Our leagues are non-contact by definition, though physical play may be experienced at the higher competitive levels. There are several tiers of competition divided by multiple divisions. League play is based in Calgary, and some levels may provide opportunities to attend out-of-town tournaments including Provincial, Western Regional, and National Championships.
Mandatory player equipment for adult leagues is CSA approved hockey helmets and gloves, and only ice hockey regulation sticks are allowed - No plastic blades. Optional equipment such as light shin guards, elbow pads, face shields, and protective cup, can be worn at the player’s discretion. Junior leagues require full facial protection, and goalies require full CSA approved goalie equipment and no cats-eye masks are allowed.
